ENTRY 3
Identifying Bias
Item 1:
* Type
of bias: Stereotype
-
Analysis:
The slogan 'Success
is very demanding' is associated with 'Success is good fun'. This might leads
to the thought that the fun is associated with the beautiful girls shown in the
ad. Therefore, the female characters are presented as sex symbols. Generally
stating, the majority of alcohol drinkers are men. By including attractive
women in such advertisements, the hidden message is that if men drink a certain
type of hard drinks they will be able to attract a certain type of female.
Item 2:
* Type of bias: Discrimination
- Analyse:
There are two men sitting around a table. The
white looks polite and sits in the clean and modern half while the black is
untidy and sit in dilapidated one. The black guy looks so shy and miserable,
vice versa the fat while man is full of majesty.
Color discrimination can occur between persons
of different races or ethnicities, or between persons of the same race or
ethnicity. Here, we see clearly the existance of discrimination. Coloured
people are behaved in unfavarable way in comparision with the others.
.Item 3:
“Cô bé thông minh hơn Einstein: một nữ sinh
người Anh đến từ tỉnh lẻ Claeverley đã vượt người được coi là “thiên tài của
thiên niên kỷ” Albert Einstein về chỉ số thông minh (IQ) ở tuổi 11 củamình. Đó
là Victoria Covie, ngườ iđạt 162 điểm trắc nghiệm IQ trong khi Einstein chỉ
được 160 điểm, nghĩa là thua cô 2 điểm”
* Type of bias: Stereotype, Prejudice.
- Analysis:
Victoria Covie gets
grade 162 in an IQ exam while the score of Einstein is160; therefore, people
consider her as an intelligent person and more intelligent than Einstein.
In fact, intelligence
is a very complicated concept and it cannot be measured by some lists of
questions. Furthermore, the real metal power can change; it depends on the
confidence, spiritual state, health and language. For many people, the image of
someone with a high IQ mark is an intelligent person (stereotype). Then, when
someone gets a high IQ mark, people judge: “Oh, he/she is really intelligent”
and vice versa (Prejudice). In addition, people also judge that someone with a
higher IQ mark is more intelligent than others with a lower IQ mark
(Prejudice). It is ridiculous when we evaluate other intelligent levels basing
on IQ test only.

Your analysis in item 3 is very clear and convincing.
Trả lờiXóaEntry 1 and 2 are good
Trả lờiXóaEntry 3: I think it's stereotype. : concluding that who is more intelligent than someone is based on only IQ mark. A picture or information couldn't include 2 biases. :)
Item 1 and item 2 are good
Trả lờiXóaitem 3 : i think it's only stereotype that people base on IQ to say who is more intelligent.
