ENTRY 3
Identifying Bias

ITEMS 1:

  •  Stereotypes.
  • Analysis: As for many people, “Ao Dai” and conical hat are typical symbols of Vietnamese women. The beauty of women in “Ao Dai” and conical hat leaves a deep impression on foreign visitors. Actually, now, Vietnamese women only wear “Ao Dai” because of their jobs or in some special occasions.

ITEM 2:

  •   Discrimination.
  •  Analysis: It is clear that this cafe/ restaurant treats the Japanese bad. In the old time in the United States, there was already racial prejudice against Asians, particularly on the West Coast of the U.S. Part of this was based on the success Japanese laborers and farmers had, and the fear on the part of white businessmen and workers that the Japanese would take their jobs away, a rationale used to justify discrimination and similar to that used against Jews worldwide.

ITEM 3:
Many Americans scapegoat illegal immigrants for the lack of jobs for the American people, when the truth is that the American people don't want to take the low paid jobs.
  • Scapegoat.
  • Analysis: Some Americans held illegal immigrants responsible for the lack of jobs, so they isolated these people. Actually, the lack of jobs can be caused by many other reasons such as economic crisis, inflation and so on.

5 nhận xét:

  1. I think in item 3, bias are scapegoating and assumption because some Americans do not understand the real cause leading to lack of job.

  5. I think in item 1, it is not stereotype. The sentence "Vietnamese women only wear “Ao Dai” because of their jobs or in some special occasions" just talks about their custom
