Entry 1
Item 1: Poem
Try Again (by
Anonymous)
'Tis a lesson you should
heed,
Try, try, try again;
If at first you don't succeed,
Try, try, try again.
Once or twice though you should fail
Try again;
If you would at last prevail,
Try again.
If we strive, 'tis no disgrace
Though we may not win the race;
What should you do in that case?
Try again.
If you find your task is hard,
Try again;
Time will bring you your reward,
Try again.
All that other folks can do,
With your patience should not you?
Only keep this rule in view—
Try again.
Try, try, try again;
If at first you don't succeed,
Try, try, try again.
Once or twice though you should fail
Try again;
If you would at last prevail,
Try again.
If we strive, 'tis no disgrace
Though we may not win the race;
What should you do in that case?
Try again.
If you find your task is hard,
Try again;
Time will bring you your reward,
Try again.
All that other folks can do,
With your patience should not you?
Only keep this rule in view—
Try again.

Item 2: Story
The
story of a woodcutter
Once upon a time, a
very strong woodcutter asked for a job in a timber merchant and he got it. The
pay was really good and so was the work condition. For those reason, the
woodcutter was determined to do his best. His boss gave him an axe and showed
him the area where he supposed to work.
The first day, the
woodcutter brought 18 trees.
"
congratulations" the boss said. "Go on that way!"
Very motivated by
the boss words, the woodcutter tried harder the next day, but he could only
bring 15 trees. The third day, he tried even hard, but he could only bring 10
trees. Day after day he was bringing less and less trees.
" I must be losing
my strength", the woodcutter thought. He went to the boss and apologized,
saying that he could not understand what was going on.
"when was the last
time you sharpened your axe?" the boss asked. "sharpen?" "I had no time to
sharpen my axe. I have been very busy trying to cut trees…"
Rhetorical
devices:
Metaphor:
“woodcutter” ( people who are very busy)
“sharpen axe” (the
truly important things in life)
Message: If
people are too hard- working and do not take the time to make the truly important things in life, they will lose their effectiveness.
Item 3: cartoon

Hi Yen, I have some comments for your entry:
Trả lờiXóa- In item 1, I think your message is not clear "Although you do not succeed or fail to do hard task, you should try persistently in any case.". In my opinion, "do not succeed" is similar to "fail" so you should choose one.
- In item 3, I think your message is not exact.
Hi, Yen. In my opinion, I think that the message in item 2 is:"Althought you are hard working but you are not effective because you don't know the importantace for your work".
